Duran Duran Drop New Single and New Video for Free to Love, Watch it Here

Liner Notes: Story at a Glance: Duran Duran have officially entered their 2026 disco era, and they’re doing it the only way they know how: stylishly and with Nile Rodgers in tow. Their brand‑new single “Free to Love” arrived today, April 23, 2026 — a date Duranies have been spiritually preparing for ever since DDHQ started posting cryptic sparkly‑lady teasers.

And now? It’s here and demands to be added to your Feels Good playlist.

Do you Love Free to Love?

The high-energy track wastes absolutely no time. It drops in, locks onto a hook, and within seconds you’re already replaying it in your head. It’s one of those songs that functions as an instant funkyfied earworm. (By Mennen!)

In fact, the funk factor is on fire. The track leans hard into that precision-tooled groove that immediately calls to mind Chic with tight rhythm guitar, a bassline that runs the show, and that steady thump-thump-thump that basically overrides your free will.

Go ahead and dance. The Durans demand it.

Nick calls it “a call to all the people out there who want peace, hope and understanding to prevail,” which is the most Nick way of saying: yes, it grooves, but it also has something to say. And honestly, in these trying times, who doesn’t appreciate a song that lets you dance and feel like humanity might still have a shot?

Free To Love is our call to all the people out there who want peace, hope and understanding to prevail. An anthem for freedom, which is the most valuable currency we have and something that should be truly and freely available for everyone, everywhere. Free To Love has a simple message, there is nothing more important than freedom and love. We certainly need a lot more of both in the world right now.

Watch Duran Duran’s Free to Love Video

The Jonas Åkerlund-directed video is all sequins, and mirror‑balls, and the band looking especially good for men who have lived through several genres. It leans into a full-on Top of the Pops throwback, with Clara Amfo ushering in the band. As a BBC Radio 1 alum, BRIT Awards host, and one of the UK’s most recognizable music broadcasters, she brings the exact kind of credibility that keeps the whole thing from tipping into kitsch.

You could say it’s cool like Fonzi.

And, there’s the fact that Duran Duran practically grew up on Top of the Pops. Their early performances helped cement them as visual icons long before MTV finished the job. Seeing Clara introduce them now feels like a full‑circle moment: the past and present shaking hands under a disco ball.

The Great Disco Revival: the Return of Mustaches and the Glitterati

If the Free to Love song and video feels like it time‑warped straight out of 1978, that’s because we’re living through a full‑blown disco renaissance — and Duran Duran are sliding into it like they never left the dance floor.

And they’re not alone.

Pop culture has been re‑embracing the 70s for the past few years. Harry Styles is in his Kiss All the Time, Disco Occasionally era. Then there’s Benson Boone, who resurrected the 70s mustache and made it a Gen Z thirst trap. (Not gonna lie, we’d love to see Simon in a Le Tache…)

The whole era is back like it heard we were bored with normal, everyday clothes.

Four Decades In, Duran Duran Still Know How to Make Us Move

Free to Love is proof that Duran Duran still know exactly how to find the pulse of their fans. The songs hits with the confidence of a band that has nothing left to prove and yet keeps proving it anyway, decade after decade. We’re sure Free to Love is going to get the crowds moving at the upcoming Vegas and European shows. Because if there’s one thing this band has mastered after forty‑plus years, it’s delivering the kind of track that turns a live crowd into a living, breathing, arms‑in‑the‑air organism.

Free to Love Lyrics

Free to love – Be free to win or lose

Free to love – Do what you want to do

Free to love – Be free to see it through

Out there & free to love

We’re at the intersection

Potential all direction

Ready for a connection

Maybe of skin to skin

That thought is so delicious

Border of mercy vicious

Will tempt the superstitious

To bring this black cat in

Free to love – Be free to win or lose

Free to love – Do what you want to do

Free to love – Be free to see it through

Out there & free to love

Until this moment only

One of the lost & lonely

Now you ride a hot-star pony

Across the galaxy

We’re under no illusion

Chasing a dream in all the confusion

But there’s no substitution

For being the best that we could be

Free to love – Be free to win or lose

Free to love – Do what you want to do

Free to love – Be free to see it through

Out there & free to love

Free to love – Be free to win or lose

Free to love – Do what you want to do

Free to love – Be free to see it through

Out there & free to love

Free to love – Be free to raise it up

Raise it up To fill your buttercup

Free to love – Going out to work it on up

Out there & free to love
