Inspiration: Duran Duran “Planet Earth” (of course!)

Look now, look all around, these are Planet Earth cookies and they’re really something precious (and delicious).

These cookies are out of this world. They’re also great for your Earth Day celebrations or school parties. Drizzle them with white icing on cloudy days.

Planet Earth Cookies Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 sticks (1/2 pound) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar, plus extra for rolling
  • 1 large egg
  • 1½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • Green and blue food coloring

Optional Glaze:

  • 1/2 cup confectioners sugar
  • 2-3 tsp milk
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350F.
  2. In a bowl, combined flour, baking powder and salt.
  3. In separate bowl: Use hand mixer to beat together butter and sugar until fluffy. Add egg and vanilla and mix. Add dry ingredients and combine. DO NOT OVER-MIX.
  4. softened butter and sugar until creamy and well-combined. Stir in vanilla and milk.
  5. Divide dough in half and put in separate bowls.
  6. Add green food coloring to one bowl and blue food coloring to the other bowl and stir.
  7. Use a spoon to scoop a small amount of blue dough and a small amount of green dough and roll into a ball.
  8. Place balls on parchment-lined cookie sheet with space between them. Cookies will spread during baking.
  9. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, rotating cookie sheet halfway through.
  10. Remove from oven and cool before transferring to cooking rack.
  11. If desired, drizzle with glaze once cookies are fully cooled.
  12. Bop bop bop bop bop bop bop bop, this is Planet Earth Cookies.
