Welcome to our Duran Duran inspired recipes!
Inspiration: Duran Duran “My Own Way”
Whenever I head to an air race with my fellow Duranies, I like to bring along this #1 Public Figure Punch. It’s not a pain. I bring it BORG-style. Cause I’ve got my own way and you should too. It will definitely put a rattle in your brain though so drink responsibly, otherwise you might find yourself dancing with the bulls and running like a fox. You’re not in college. So, please, use a nice glass pitcher instead of a plastic milk jug.
This recipe works without the vodka if you’re inviting John to your Duranie party. Just add a little Grenadine instead. Sherbert works too.
#1 Public Figure Punch Ingredients:
- 3-4 cups of Cherry 7Up (obviously)
- 3-4 cups of vodka or more (you do YOU)
- “Lots” of cherries (again, you do YOU)
- 3-5 limes, sliced or quartered
- 1 can frozen limeade
- 2 cups water
- Ice
Instructions:
- In a large pitcher (or gallon milk jug if you must), combine the cherries, sliced limes, and vodka. Let sit for 20 minutes.
- Add the limeade, water, Cherry 7UP®.
- Mix well, and serve big batch style in a glass pitcher over ice.
- Be the kid who lives for today.
What the band says about the song My Own Way
“The single version of [‘My Own Way’] is a little misguided,” bassist John Taylor said in a 2017 interview around Rio‘s 35th anniversary. “We were kind of going for a very disco, Donna Summer-y [approach]. … I mean, it was probably the most blatant kind of disco song we wrote.”
“The single version was very different from the album version,” added drummer Roger Taylor. “I made some notes on some of these songs [on Rio] and at the top next to ‘My Own Way,’ I’d written ‘problem child.”
My Own Way Lyrics
I saw you at the airace yesterday
April showers get out of my way
Fear of flying, no, not me
I’m never bothered what you say
Someone’s kid just lives for today
It ain’t your problem anyway
‘Cos I’ve got my own way
I can find my own way
‘Cos I’ve got my own way
No. 1 public figure, what a pain
Just puts another rattle in your brain
Take another green, but it’s not the same
Now you’re on the Sandlane everyday
Dancing with the bulls in any old way
Running like a fox to keep up with me
I’m on 45th between 6th and Broadway
