Inspiration: Duran Duran’s “Invisible” and Metal Gear Solid

Has your memory gone? Are you feeling numb?

Maybe you’ve had too many of these Invisible Snake cocktails. No judgement. They’re really good. And nobody has to know about the “invisible” worm that is pumped full of boozy goodness.

This drink is based on Duran Duran’s “Invisible”, released in 2021 on the Future Past album. The song is annoyingly CATCHY and will get stuck in your head for 15 years, probably. But wait, there’s a bonus. Fans of the video game Metal Gear Solid will also recognize a few easter eggs hidden in the recipe that pay homage to Solid Snake, who is just trying to live his life, damnit.

Why on earth does a cocktail exist that combines Duran Duran with a terrorist-fighting, moody protagonist? You can thank TikTok for that. The post-1995 babies of the world thought that the song was a good fit for their Mods and emotes and edits and the rest is history. (Learn more here if you’re not already super-tired of the subject.)

Invisible Snake Cocktail Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Topo Chico
  • 2 oz Absolut watermelon vodka
  • 1 tsp agave (or less to taste)
  • lime zest and salt for the rim (optional)
  • jalapeño, watermelon and lime slices (optional)
  • Gummy worm (soaked in vodka, if you dare)

Instructions:

  1. OPTIONAL: Add gummy worms to a container, cover with vodka and seal with a lid. Refrigerate for 2-3 days.
  2. Brush rim of glass with agave syrup and roll it in a mixture of lime zest and salt
  3. Add jalapeño slice and gummy worm to the glass.
  4. Fill glass with ice and add Topo Chico and vodka. Stir to combine.
  5. Garnish with watermelon, lime or jalapeño slices (if you desire)

Invisible Lyrics

When you can’t even say my name, Has the memory gone? Are you feeling numb? Go and call my name, I can’t play this game, so I ask again, Will you say my name? Has the memory gone? Are you feeling numb? Or have I become invisible?

(Sky light) That dreamers wish away
(Hindsight) Is falling on my face
(Highlights) The shape of my disgrace

When you don’t hear a word I say, As the talking goes, it’s a one-way flow
No fault, no blame, Has the memory gone? Are you feeling numb? And have I become invisible?

(Invisible)

And no one hears a word they say, Has the memory gone? Are you feeling numb?
Not a word they say, But a voiceless crowd isn’t backing down, When the air turns red
With their loaded hesitation, Can you say my name? Has the memory gone? Are you feeling numb?

Have we all become invisible?
