Meet Duranie Karey R.
Karey’s love for Duran Duran began in 1985, and she’s been hooked ever since. As a lifelong fan, she’s seen the band live six times over the years, but it’s Nick Rhodes who has always held a special place in Karey’s heart. Her admiration for Nick runs deep as she shares his obsession with Halloween. In fact, each year, she channels her inner Nick by dressing up as him, choosing a different look from his past. From his iconic 80s glam to his more recent styles, Karey’s creativity knows no bounds when it comes to portraying her favorite band member.
When she’s not jamming out to Duran Duran, Karey works as a registered nurse (RN). She’s married and has one son, who works as a software manager in Phoenix. Despite her busy life, she always finds time to celebrate her love for Duran Duran and connect with the community of fans who share her passion.

How long have you been a Duran Duran fan?
I’ve been a Duran Duran fan since 1985—yep, a lifelong Duranie! I was hooked from the moment I heard their music. It’s been a beautiful journey ever since, and I can’t imagine my life without their songs.
How many times have you seen them live? Do you have a favorite concert memory?
I’ve seen Duran Duran six times, and each show has been so special! It’s hard to pick just one favorite memory, but I’ll never forget the energy of the crowd at their concert in 2011. The whole venue was singing along to Save a Prayer and it felt like one huge, happy family united by Duran Duran’s music.
Who is your favorite band member and why?
Nick Rhodes is my absolute favorite! His style, his creativity, and his amazing talent on the keyboards really spoke to me from the start. There’s something magical about the way he reinvents himself over the years, and I’ve always been drawn to his unique energy and presence.
Do you have a favorite Duran Duran album? If so, what makes it stand out for you?
Rio is definitely my favorite album. It’s the energy, the sound, the vibe—it just takes me back to those glorious 80s days, and it still feels so fresh. That album holds so many memories for me, and I think it’s just one of those records that defines the essence of Duran Duran.
What’s your favorite Duran Duran song, and what does it mean to you?
Serious from the Liberty album is my all-time favorite. The song has this cool, deep vibe that really gets under your skin in the best way. I love how it mixes seriousness with this funky, unique groove. It’s one of those songs that I always come back to, and it feels like it was written just for me.
What’s your favorite Duran Duran music video, and why?
I’ll always be in love with Save a Prayer. The visuals, the story, the emotions—it’s just timeless. The mix of romance and melancholy in the video is perfect, and the song itself is one of the most beautiful things Duran Duran has ever created. It’s just so memorable, and I can never watch it without feeling something special.
Have you ever dressed up as a member of Duran Duran for Halloween or any other occasion? Tell us about your costumes!
Yes, absolutely! Every year for Halloween, I dress up as Nick Rhodes, and I try to pick a different look from his past. I’ve done everything from his glam 80s look to his more recent styles. It’s so much fun getting into character and channeling my inner Nick. Plus, it’s always fun to see how fellow Duranies react when they see my costume!
What was the first Duran Duran song or album you heard, and how did it impact you?
The first song I ever heard was Hungry Like the Wolf on the radio. That catchy beat, the energy—it instantly grabbed my attention. I remember thinking, “Who are these guys?” It was my introduction to Duran Duran, and I’ve never looked back since. That song sparked something inside me that’s never gone away.
If you could attend any Duran Duran concert, past or present, which one would it be and why?
I’d love to attend their 1984 show at the Birmingham NEC. That’s the peak of their Rio era, and I can only imagine the energy in the crowd with all the iconic songs blasting through the speakers. Plus, it would be incredible to witness that early stage in their career when everything was just exploding.
Do you have any memorable fan experiences or interactions with the band?
I haven’t had any personal interactions with the band, but I did once get the chance to see them from afar at a signing event. Just being in the same room as them was an unforgettable experience.
What’s your go-to Duran Duran song when you need to lift your spirits?
When I need a pick-me-up, I always go for The Reflex. The energy in that song is unmatched, and it never fails to make me feel happy and full of life. It’s a perfect reminder to just dance and enjoy the moment.
What makes you a passionate member of the Duran Duran fandom?
The music, the memories, the amazing fan community—it’s all so special. Duran Duran has been a constant in my life for so long, and their music has always been there to provide comfort, joy, and excitement. The Duranie fandom is filled with some of the most passionate, creative, and welcoming people, and I’m proud to be a part of it. It’s not just about the band—it’s about the connection we all share through their music.
