Duran Duran’s Epic Setlist at Cruel World Festival


The Cruel World festival is a vibrant celebration of the ’80s alternative and new wave music scene, uniting iconic bands and artists for a day filled with nostalgia and unforgettable performances. Headlined by Duran Duran, the event featured a lineup of legends including Blondie, Simple Minds, Jesus And Mary Chain, Soft Cell, Adam Ant, and Ministry, transporting fans back to the heyday of these influential acts. Taking place in Pasadena, California at the iconic Rose Bowl, the festival is not just a concert; it’s a gathering of like-minded fans who share a deep passion for the music that defined a generation.

Duran Duran’s 90-minute set was a vibrant kaleidoscope of electrifying music and a testament to the years of synergy the band members have shared, showcasing their sharp musical prowess and powerful stage presence. Above all, it was an exhilarating experience, featuring a lineup of hits from Duran Duran’s extensive catalog that deeply resonated with the audience.

The show started with the atmospheric “The Chauffeur,” an intriguing choice typically reserved for later in the set. However, it proved to be a driving force that kicked off the performance with gusto, leading into beloved Duran Duran crowd-pleasers like “Wild Boys,” “Hungry Like the Wolf,” and “A View to a Kill.”

The band delivered what the audience craved, including favorites such as “Careless Memories” and “Ordinary World,” along with the rare treat of “New Moon on Monday” from their 1983 album “Seven and the Ragged Tiger,” much to the fans’ delight. Many joined in chanting along with the lyrics, “I light my torch and wave it for the new moon on Monday.”

Closing out the night, the band delivered hits like “The Reflex” and a mashup of “Girls on Film” with Talking Heads’ “Psycho Killer,” a track featured on their 2023 album “Danse Macabre.” The encore began with the dreamy tones of “Save a Prayer,” as the audience’s twinkling cell phone lights created a magical atmosphere, culminating in the iconic “Rio” to conclude the unforgettable evening.
