“We’re not just fans—we’re believers.” That’s the rallying cry behind Double Duran, a Duran Duran tribute band that has taken their love of the Fab Five from fandom to full-scale, synth-soaked stardom across the East Coast and beyond.
Based in the Mid-Atlantic and performing nationwide, Double Duran isn’t content to simply cover the hits. Instead, they channel the essence of Duran Duran with an uncanny dedication to sound, style, and spirit. From the iconic yacht-rock of Rio to the funk-laced pulse of Notorious, Double Duran’s mission is clear: make every show feel like a vintage Duran Duran tour.
A Band Born of Passion (and a Persistent Agent)
Double Duran’s formation reads like the plot of a rock doc: multiple attempts, persistent passion, and the right phone call at the right time.
“We tried launching this a few times over the span of ten years,” says their keyboardist, who channels Nick Rhodes with eerie precision. “Then our agent Tom Moon asked us to give it one more try. When we played our first song at rehearsal, it was magic.”
That magic caught fire quickly. Their very first show in Annapolis, Maryland? Sold out. The crowd was electric, singing along like it was 1983 all over again. “During ‘Save a Prayer,’ it felt like a candlelight vigil. Phones in the air, tears in people’s eyes—it was surreal.”

Whether a lifelong Duranie or a recent new Duran fan, Double Duran will transport you to a time when music was wild, fashion was bold, and every beat made you want to dance.
The Moment It All Clicked: From “The Reflex” to Reflexive Devotion
Ask any member of Double Duran about their Duranie origin story, and you’ll hear variations on a familiar theme: Rio on MTV, pastel suits, that yacht. But for the band’s synth wizard, it was Seven and the Ragged Tiger that sealed the deal. “To this day, I think ‘The Reflex’ is an absolute masterpiece. Nick Rhodes made synths feel like magic. I was hooked.”
That attention to detail is part of what sets Double Duran apart. They’re not a karaoke act. They’re students of the craft. Every delay time. Every guitar patch. Every bass groove. Studied. Practiced. Revered. “Our bassist has an almost supernatural connection to John Taylor,” says the band. “It’s uncanny.”
Authenticity First—But With a Pulse of Their Own
Double Duran strives to recreate Duran Duran’s iconic sound as faithfully as possible—but they stop short of impersonation.
“It’s a tribute, not a carbon copy,” they explain. “There’s a bit of our own energy in there, especially in the solos and stage banter.”
That authenticity extends to their fashion. “Tailored jackets, bold colors, glam touches—we treat the look as seriously as the sound. Our singer channels Simon’s swagger to a T.”
And it’s working. From synth-loving superfans to casual concertgoers, audiences have embraced the band’s immersive experience.
Playing the Hits—and the Hidden Gems
Of course, you’ll hear “Hungry Like the Wolf” and “Girls on Film.” But what sets Double Duran apart is their willingness to dig deep into the catalog. “We love the hits—who doesn’t?—but Duranies lose their minds when we go into the vault,” they say. “One of the most requested deep cuts? ‘New Religion.’”
They’re not afraid of surprises either. A fan once asked for “Thank You” as it was their wedding song. “That version of ‘Thank You’ is hands down the best cover of any song,” says the band’s keyboardist, who has a soft spot for Duran’s often-overlooked 1995 covers album. “It holds a special place in my heart.”
Their personal deep-cut favorite?
“Land.” “It’s cinematic, brooding, and epic—should be talked about way more than it is.”
What’s Next for Double Duran?
From mid-size concert halls to larger venues on the horizon, Double Duran shows no sign of slowing down. Their calendar books up fast, with shows planned a year in advance. “For us, it’s not about the size of the venue. It’s about the connection. We love talking to fans after the show, hearing their stories.”
And yes, they still dream of meeting the real Duran Duran one day. “If they were in the audience, we’d play ‘Ordinary World’ for them. We’d want them to feel the love and respect we bring to every show.”

DuranDuranies.com Interview With Double Duran
Double Duran was born from a shared devotion—to the music, style, and legacy of Duran Duran. Each of us had a shared passion of different eras of the band. We tried starting this project a few times over the years, we were approached by Full Moon Entertainment Services who asked for us to give it another try. After a few discussions, we all jumped in, no hesitation. We’re based out of the Mid-Atlantic region, but we travel up and down the East Coast and have concerts booked across the United States a year in advance. Our mission? To make every show feel like you’re stepping into a vintage Duran Duran tour.
For most of us, it was that first look at the “Rio” video—Simon on the yacht, those pastel suits, the sheer coolness of it all. But for me personally (the keyboardist), it was the album “Seven and the Ragged Tiger” To this day, I think “The Reflex” is an absolute masterpiece. Nick Rhodes made synths feel like magic, and from that point on, I was hooked.
Not yet, maybe someday (Fingers crossed).
Absolutely—our Agent (Tom Moon) called me to ask if I would be interested in launching a tribute to Duran Duran. As mentioned, Tim (Simon, Rob (Andy) and myself (Nick) tried launching this a few times over the span of ten years. We thought the timing was right and thought we would give it one last try. When we played our first song together at our first practice it was absolute magic.
“Planet Earth” is always electric as we’ve been opening our most recent shows with that song—it just slaps live. The crowd energy is unbeatable. “Ordinary World” is a favorite as it’s emotionally rich, layered, and vocally intense. Honestly speaking, every song is a challenge to recreate as we want the experience at our show to be authentic to Duran Duran.
Our goal is to honor the sound as authentically as possible—we geek out over synth patches, guitar tones, bass effects—but we don’t try to mimic them. It’s a tribute, not a carbon copy. There’s a bit of our own energy in there too, especially when it comes to solos or stage banter. We’ve spent an incredible amount of time getting the visual element of our shows as close to Duran Duran as possible. The response from fans have been phenomenal.
We love the hits (who doesn’t?), but we throw in a few surprises along the way. Duranies lose their minds when we dig into the vault. One of the deep cuts that get requested often is “New Religion”.
Rio, hands down. It’s their defining moment—stylistically, sonically, culturally. Every track is iconic.
Yes! We pay tribute to the look as much as the sound—tailored jackets, bold colors, glam touches. The image of Duran Duran was as important as the music. Our singer channels the energy and swagger of Simon to a T.
It’s all in the details. We spent hours recreating Nick’s synth patches, down to the exact delay times. Our bassist has an almost supernatural connection to John Taylor’s grooves—it’s uncanny. Vocally, our frontman has studied Simon’s phrasing and tone for years. We’re students of their craft, plain and simple.
We’re heavily influenced by the Rio and Notorious eras—glam, funk, art-pop perfection. But we’ll never ignore The Wedding Album or their later reinventions. Duran Duran are masters of evolution.
Plenty! A fan recently told us our version of “Save a Prayer” brought them to tears. They had a deep emotional connection to that specific song. After a recent show in Boston we spent a few hours taking pictures and having interactions with the fans. Duranies are the best—creative, passionate, and always ready to dance.
Our very show was Sold-Out in Annapolis, MD. We spent several weeks preparing for the show. From the first note, the crowd was absoletly insane. To this day, I’m personally blown away by the response we received out of the gate. During “Save a Prayer” the audience often sings along with us and has phones in the air like it was a Duran Duran candlelight vigil. It’s chilling—in the best way.
I had a fan request “Thank You” of the “Thank You Album” as it’s her wedding song (The Duran Duran Version). That album holds a very special place in my heart as I think it’s very underrated. That version of “Thank You” hands down is the best cover of any song.
From a band perspective, it’s not as much about the venue as it is about the fans. Most venues we play are medium size concert halls. It allows us personal interaction with fans before/after the show. We have several larger scale shows in the works though. We are having fun and loving the fan interaction.
“Land.” It’s cinematic, brooding, and epic. Should be talked about way more than it is.
“Ordinary World” We’d want them to feel the energy, the love, and the respect we bring to the stage.
We’re not just fans—we’re believers. We put our heart and soul into every show because we know what this music means to you. It means the world to us, too. The love and kindness is incredible. We love Duran Duran as much as you do! We hope you enjoy the show as much as we enjoy performing the songs.
We have lots of fun things in the works.
